Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) based solutions are gaining significant popularity in various applications, for instance in environmental monitoring system, agriculture sector, energy sector, healthcare system and as well as in the treatment of water supply and quality monitoring. In this research, an IoT based system has been proposed to sense tap-water supply and generate an alert message in order to inform community users in timely manner. Our results show that, upon resuming water-supply, each sensor node connected with the network, sensed the water and published an alert message by using message-queuing-telemetry-transport protocol to rest of the connected nodes. This swift information will prevent users from undue burden of long waiting of water supply and the frequent usage/switching of the inductive consumer electrical appliances. This research would provide a valuable platform to both academia and industry who are interested in the designing and deployment of wireless sensor technology in the field of residential water supply system.
