Abstract
NCMRWF is the lead Data Assimilation (DA) and Weather/Climate modelling centre in India. Development and Operational activities related to Global and Regional atmosphere DA are carried out at NCMRWF. Global Ocean DA and Land-surface DA are also important works undertaken. Assimilation of Scatterometer data products has been found very useful for both Global and Regional NWP to improve the skill of weather forecasts in short and medium ranges. Scatterometer winds add value to Ocean surface analysed winds (from DA products), which are very important to drive the ocean models. Scatterometer winds have been found useful for tropical cyclones and severe weather forecasting. Upcoming Oceansat-3 products like surface winds, SST, and ocean color will further add value by providing extra information when used in our assimilation-forecast system.
