Abstract
The demand for Information Technology professionals has continued to grow. Unfortunately, the study of Computer Science within the high school education curriculum is limited causing incoming college Freshmen students who are majoring in Computer Science or in related STEM fields to be unprepared. Additionally, the means to meet the employment demand is worsen with women and some ethnic groups being under-represented, especially within the Computer Science field. Offering students a pre-college summer experience has been a means to better prepare the students. This paper outlines the experience of setting up such a program. The goal is to engage the students, better prepare them for success, as well as bringing them together as a cohort which is essential during their first critical year in a Computer Science engineering field of study.
