Abstract
Soiling, the accumulation of airborne particulate matter on PV module surfaces, reduces PV module output and can significantly impact PV project economics. Soiling measurement data are often difficult to interpret due to inherent noise, incomplete or inconsistent cleaning events, and misalignment between paired PV modules. GroundWork has developed a soiling data processing method specific to preconstruction measurement data sets that builds upon prior art. The method employs robust data filters to minimize errors. Monthly and annualized soiling rates are generated, along with their corresponding uncertainty. This paper describes key features of the data processing algorithm and how the GroundWork method overcomes challenges associated with soiling rate calculations.
