Abstract
Engineering ethics seems to be a contradictory issue. Although most practitioners agree that general principles of ethics should be followed, just a tiny fraction of them know the IEEE Code of Ethics or the Software Engineering Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. It is seldom that the principles of engineering ethics are on the table when making business decisions and taking corresponding actions or practicing one's profession. This regrettable observation is reflected in my international R&D career and the numerous discussions that I have had with practicing electrical engineers.
