Abstract
The aircraft surveillance systems mainly use 1030/1090 MHz signals. 1030MHz is especially used for interrogation, and 1090MHz is applied to the reply and an aircraft collision avoidance system. These signals are shared with some surveillance systems. Therefore, as the number of aircraft increases, the number of signals increase as well. Managing the number of signals conducts the safety aircraft operation. Consequently, it is important how to estimate the number of signals. There are also some types of signals to obtain the information the air traffic controllers request, such as identification, altitude and so on. In this paper, we introduce the method using multilateration for estimating the number of 1090MHz signals. The result shows what kind of signals are used in present sky.
