Abstract
There has been an increase in demand for large-scale electromagnetic simulations, and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is one of the effective approaches. The multi-region (MR)/FDTD method allows the calculation of free space between the antenna and the objects to be omitted from the simulation model. This method utilizes the equivalence theorem to connect multiple regions, although in large-scale simulations, this approach is limited by its high time complexity. Thus, this communication proposes a space-time adaptive processing concept using a quadtree structure for adaptive processing to optimize the computation time of the MR/FDTD method. The effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed using numerical simulations.
