Abstract
Transient voltage stability is of particular concern in a system with high penetration of solar power plants. In this paper, we revisit this issue, focusing on the solvability of network equation. We show that singularity of the Jacobian matrix of network equations is a key reason for insolvability, and then propose a numerical index to quantify the transient voltage stability. The proposed index has a simple expression and clear sign pattern, which allows us better recognize the impact of system parameters. Based on the index, it is found that with the increased penetration of photovoltaic generation, the voltage solvability decreases and thus the voltage stability deteriorates. The results of a II-node test system and a 39-node test system verify the effectiveness of the proposed numerical index for voltage stability analysis.
