Abstract
This paper deals with design and simulation of a linear and current regulated DC power supply with telemeter control and monitor. This power supply was designed as energizing source for an X-steerer used for focusing the ion beam at the low energy side of the 1.7MV tandetron accelerator. The power supply is designed to provide the following: output voltages: +35V, -35V, current: -1.0A to 1.0A for a control input of 0-10V. The main blocks of the power supply include a differential amplifier, offset and bias circuit, push pull driver, o/p voltage and current sensing circuit, error amplifier and feedback circuits, output current indication circuits. An analog duplex telemeter system consisting of a transmitter, a receiver and a 20 metre long fibre optic cable is designed for implementing the computer control of the power supply from the control room with an input of 0-10VDC. All the individual blocks of the power supply like the unregulated power supplies, bias and operational amplifier power supplies are designed, simulated, individually tested, and found working well with simulation and experimental results and calculations are in very close agreement. The integrated performance of all the blocks is also satisfactory. This, along with various reliability measures applied ensures that the power supply works very well and is efficiently controlled and monitored from the control system.
