Abstract
Recent surge in the data rate requirements due to the bandwidth demanding applications has triggered the quest for developing high capacity access networks. Wireless optical integrated networks have emerged as a very effective solution for providing mobile high data rate connections to the users. However, the independence of the wireless and optical network protocols makes it challenging to provide good quality of service after integrating the two networks. The problem escalates in the presence of mixed traffic with different priorities. Thus, minimizing jitter for video in presence of voice in the uplink is an issue. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces jitter for video in the uplink at the expense of controlled increase of delay for video as well as voice traffic. Our proposal particularly deals with the integration of ethernet passive optical network with IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks. A simulation platform for the integrated network has been developed using OMNeT++. We provide extensive simulation study to demonstrate the benefit of our proposed integration algorithm.
