Abstract
Due to depletion of fossil fuels and environmental problem, renewable energy has become one of the important energy resources. For the purpose of efficient power generation of the renewable energy sources, MPPT control is essential. But if the power conditioning system operates under stand-alone mode, MPPT control is unavailable for the parameter control of the local load. This paper proposes a maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) method for stand-alone operation of Photovoltaic(PV) systems with energy storage system including a bi-directional charger/discharger. In this paper, the operation principles and control scheme are presented, along with the performance evaluation using PSIM simulation and hardware prototype. 500W hardware prototype has been implemented for the analysis verification.
