Abstract
Today’s people want to be informed, connected with their friends, co-workers, family members, or even to expand their social circle by communicating with strangers with common interests. At the same time, the portability and accessibility of mobile phones encourage users to keep their mobile phone with them throughout the day and check it regularly, even for no particular reason. But what happens when someone is engaging in a cognitive process? What effect do interruptions have on the mobile user? In this paper, we investigate intercepted interruptions for several users and the collected data is used to discuss the impact of interruptions during a cognitive process, as well as the performed work’s quality. Furthermore, a comparison is performed between users’ opinions and our findings from interruption analysis. We also propose an algorithm for predicting interruptions generated by mobile phones on three communication channels: call, Short Message Service (SMS) and notification.
