Abstract
The roadways transportation system is one of the most widely used transportation systems. Due to the increase in population and hence the use of vehicles, there is a lot of congestion on the roads which causes inconvenience in the day-to-day lives of people. As mostly drivers tend to be in a rush they unnecessarily hop lanes and break traffic rules, ending up wasting time rather than saving it. The smooth flow of traffic would be beneficial to a common man's routine and one method to achieve this is to ensure that traffic rules are followed. This paper proposes a system that helps maintain the traffic by controlling the lane order. Many of the major roads in urban areas have specific lanes assigned for particular types of vehicles, such as lanes for buses, cars, bicycles and many more. A prototype was designed for preventing vehicles from entering into incorrect lanes. The system also alerts the traffic police personnel about an attempted invalid entry by a vehicle so that appropriate steps can be taken if required. This paper gives an extensive study of this lane order maintenance system so as to provide a simple yet functional solution to reduce the traffic issues.
