Abstract
Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) employed in electric vehicles (EVs) has a lot of potential compared to other drives. In order to enhance the average torque, minimize torque ripple and improve motor efficiency, this paper analyses a higher rotor pole SRM configuration for three-wheeler electric vehicle applications. In this study, the 8/6, 8/10, 8/14, 12/8, 12/10, and 12/16 SRM topologies are compared. The performance of the motor is analyzed using a Finite Element Analysis(FEA) based software package. The result shows that a higher stator/rotor pole configuration provides better torque, less ripple, and improved efficiency to meet the needs of EVs.
