Abstract
Two kinds of multiband reflective units with a Minkowski fractal geometry are proposed based on our previous work. To make full use of the miniaturization capability of fractal geometry and achieve a multiband performance at the same time, five first-order Minkowski fractals with optimized patch sizes and scaling factors are combined first. And four corner patches are then modified to broaden each operating band. Extensive simulations and analyses are conducted for the unit based on the well-known full wave simulation software ANSYS HFSS, and the simulation results show that the proposed unit of the first kind realize average phase range of more than 400 degrees in bands centered at 22.2 GHz, 27.2 GHz and 33 GHz. And the proposed reflective unit of the second kind can achieve multiband performance in frequency bands centered at 7.3 GHz, 9.0 GHz and 23.3 GHz, while the total area of the unit is only about 0.6 squared wavelength. The proposed unit cells are very suitable for the design of antennas focused on beam-forming and beam-steering applications used in satellite communications.
