Abstract
The article presents the main reasons for using a variant product structure at all stages of design and technological preparation of production. Authors describe the formalization of variant compositions of products and materials when working with them in information systems. The way of organizing the data structure for storing information about variant components in the composition is indicated. The list of valid substitutions is a good alternative to present valid substitutions. This list is non-standard and can be varied among industrial plans. The article provides an example of the format for this sheet, which serves to formalize operational information on the replacement of some materials and components with others. The described mechanism for working with information about the variant compositions of assembly units and component materials is used in the proprietary PDM-system named “Product Composition 2.0”, which is operated at OKB Novator JSC, Yekaterinburg.
