Abstract
Numerous tests have been performed to narrow down the contributing factors for the mechanism of OCP erosion on rotating machines. The intensity of impairing partial discharges as well as the thermal and electrical ageing of the material depends strongly on the temperature and electrical field strength. However, the type of used conductive tape material appears to be essential regarding its durability against partial discharges and therefore the appearance of erosion signs in an electrical machine lifetime. Advanced testing and evaluation methods have been obtained for assessment of OCP tape material durability.
