Abstract
The present study extends some recent works by the authors in looking ways to further improve the performance of an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) gas pump operating in a square channel. For the present study, the electrode assemblies are grouped in two and are mounted on the two opposite walls facing each other. The emitting electrodes are flush mounted on the channel walls so that the air flow produced is similar to that of a wall jet. The electrode configuration with 3 emitting electrodes is investigated for its effectiveness in enhancing the volume flow rate as well as reducing the power requirement. The results obtained are compared with those reported in the previous studies with various electrode configurations to determine which performs the best. Through the assessment of performance, the present results can provide important implications for practical applications of EHD technology.
