Abstract
This paper provides a review of the role of hydrogen in the energy transition and low-carbon development. Hydrogen is a promising option to support the carbon neutrality goal and the power system development. This paper examines the technologies and challenges of hydrogen in new power systems with a large proportion of renewable energy, and their applications in the power industry. It presents a review of the existing literature, focusing on the technology, economic and low-carbon value aspects of hydrogen. Additionally, this paper discusses policy measures for the future development of hydrogen. The analysis suggests that hydrogen has significant advantages in terms of zero pollution, high efficiency, diverse storage and production methods, and suitability for long-distance transmission. However, it also faces challenges such as high costs, lack of infrastructure, and technical barriers. The paper concludes that hydrogen has great potential to be an essential part of the change to a renewable energy future, but further research and policy support are needed to overcome the challenges and realize its full potential.
