Abstract
In a laser-plasma accelerator, an intense laser pulse drives a plasma wave that can trap and accelerate electrons to GeV energies over few centimeter distances. This relatively new accelerator technology promises compact sources of high-brightness beams that would benefit a variety of applications in science, medicine and industry.
