Abstract
This article contains the issues of snow cover assessment based on satellite monitoring data. The method for determining the area of snow cover using the normalized difference snow index (NDSI). Various indexes were analyzed and compared. On the basis of the program ArcGis for Desktop, the values of snow cover area were calculated from images of the Republic of Bashkortostan of different time periods, the percentage of the snow-covered area to the total area of the territory was obtained. The correctness of the method was verified and a conclusion was drawn on the possibility of using it to assess the risk of flooding of the territory during the spring floods.
