Abstract
There is worldwide increasing demand of electric vehicle because of stringent emission regulation. However, there are still many questions surrounding the development of electric vehicle such as, milage, charging time and life span of the battery. In order to address these issues, it is necessary to develop a robust Energy Management System (EMS). This work aims to propose a hybrid energy storage system which can extend the life span of the battery and maintain better performance. Considering the advantages of high-power density and flexible modular structure, hybrid energy storage system consisting of battery and fuel cell is proposed in this work. Through regress study and simulation, a transformer less boost. converter for fuel cell and a conventional boost. converter for battery is selected for the proposed scheme. EMS is incorporated using classical PI controller which make the system robust. The entire work is simulated using MATLAB/ Simulink software. When the SOC of the battery is less than 60%, it is seen that the EMS shares the load between battery and fuel cell appropriately, thereby efficiently utilizing the consumption of hydrogen for fuel cell and improving the cruising range of the hybrid electric vehicle.
