Abstract
This paper proposes a simplified modulated model predictive control (MMPC) for grid-connected single-phase current control applications. In the proposed method, the optimal duty cycle in every sampling instant is simply calculated without evaluating all the switching states which is essentially required in the existing MMPCs. Hence, the computational burden can be significantly reduced compared to traditional methods. Furthermore, the proposed method is universally adopted in single-phase current control applications regardless of the circuit topologies if modulators are adequately implemented. The operational principle and the implementation of the proposed method are explained in detail. The proposed method is applied to a 3 kVAR single-phase active power filter (APF) prototype made of the highly efficient reliable inverter concept (HERIC) topology. The experimental results verify that the proposed MMPC can accurately track the harmonic current references to compensate the non-linear load current.
