Abstract
The participation of astronauts facilitates the repair and replacement of extravehicular equipment, thereby extending the on-orbit lifespan of manned spacecraft. The extravehicular power distribution unit is a kind of crucial equipment in Chinese long-term manned spacecraft, enabling efficient power control and management for extravehicular electrical equipment. In case of any malfunction within the extravehicular power distribution unit, prompt repairs are necessary to prevent work interruptions or damages caused by power loss. Considering that a large-scale manned spacecraft operate on orbit for at least ten years normally, or even 15 to 20 years, it is imperative for the power distribution unit to meet a minimum lifespan requirement exceeding ten years. This paper presents a design of quick maintenance on orbit for the extravehicular power distribution unit of manned spacecraft. It encompasses maintenance safety, equipment identification, mechanical interface, electrical interface, operating space, and maintenance process. Simulation analysis verifies the effectiveness of the extravehicular power distribution unit’s maintenance process while underwater tests on a model validate the correctness and rationality of this design scheme. This study can serve as a reference for future maintainability designs concerning extravehicular power supply and distribution equipment mounted on manned spacecraft.
