Abstract
The analysis of recent publications showed the importance of optimising the slag system during the flux-cored arc welding. It was determined that it is rational to use two parameters to optimize the slag composition: viscosity and surface tension. The simplex-augmented-centroid mixture design was applied to identify the optimal formulation from the three core filler components CaO+CaF 2 , TiO 2 and SiO 2 . The results showed that high welding and processing properties would be ensured at the following slag component ratios: CaF 2 + CaO = 0.30 … 0.70; SiO 2 = 0.20 … 0.55; TiO 2 = 0.10 … 0.20.
