Abstract
The multi-terminal direct current (MTDC) grid has high requirements for DC line protection, so a small amount of transient information is needed to identify the fault location quickly and reliably. Therefore, an improved Hausdorff distance algorithm is proposed to deal with the false data according to the waveform difference between the two sides of the protected transmission line when the internal and external faults occur. By calculating the Hausdorff distance of waveforms on both sides of each sub data window, the fault can be quickly identified and eliminated. Finally, a four-terminal modular multilevel converter (MMC) based HVDC grid model is built in PSCAD/EMTDC. Extensive simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed protection scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed protection method is easy to achieve, does not need boundary element method, has an outstanding ability to resist the transmission resistance grounding and abnormal data and so on.
