Abstract
This paper discusses energy-efficient power assisting control systems. In particular, this study focuses on pedaling motions of electric power-assisted bicycles. To improve energy efficiency, it is effective to suppress a velocity pulsation invoked by the pulsation of the pedaling torque. Since the conditions related to dynamics of the bicycle drive trains are varied, it is required to apply adaptive control methods from a practical viewpoint. Therefore, this paper presents a power assist control system based on simple adaptive control (SAC). The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified through numerical simulations using measured actual pedaling torque data.
