Abstract
This article comprehensively addresses the analysis and the technical and economic feasibility of green H2 generation potential in Uruguay by utilizing surplus renewable energies by harnessing the unused energy resulting from operational constraints in various generation sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. A detailed analysis of energy demand and total production from different sources is performed to conduct this study. Furthermore, the total surplus generated in each source is investigated, and the potential for H2 production through water electrolysis is evaluated. As these surpluses are variable and subject to meteorological factors, the maximum utilization is estimated using different electrolyzer technologies. Notably, the article estimates the levelized cost of green H2 production and assesses its potential subsequent applications, like methanol and biofertilizers.
