Abstract
Future high-energy physics experiments will place challenging requirements on computation, especially for realtime data processing. Consider the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the upcoming Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) Darmstadt, Germany, which aims to do online data selection solely in software at an extremely high interaction rate of gold(Au) gold(Au) collisions up to 10 MHz. Due to the unprecedented interaction rate and the use of selftriggered electronics, CBM experiment will generate enormous amounts of data in the order of few tera bytes per second as has been shown in the mCBM (miniature version of CBM experiment). To optimise the storage usage by the experiment, digi the smallest unit of a signal needs to be optimised. India is participating in the CBM experiment and developing one of the main detector systems, Muon Chamber (MuCh). In this work, MuCh digi has been revisited and the MuCh address scheme is revised. With these optimisations, MuCh storage requirement became nearly half as compared to existing implementation and it leads to reduction in memory footprint during the unpacking of the raw data stream. We will also discuss benefits of this reduction for the entire experiment towards the processing time and storage.
