Abstract
Analysis of the effect of the low pass filter parameters on automotive FMCW radar performance in the presence of interference is undertaken for the first time in this paper. The influence of the filter's impulse response is analyzed in terms of the interference duration and effectiveness of the interference mitigation technique in the time domain. This analysis is conducted by computer modelling and experimental measurement by using two representative automotive radars. Lower cut-off frequency and higher filter order reduce the lifetime of interference; however, steeper roll off of the filter will introduce ringing effect. It is shown that the ringing has a negative effect on the performance of the interference mitigation technique in the time domain, especially for a low pass filter with lower cut-off frequencies.
