Abstract
The masses of people and goods on the move last year made more demands than ever on airports, shipping lines, and highways. The Global Positioning System (GPS) remained the star player as corporations and government agencies moved to equip transportation systems with greater intelligence. One of the system's key roles is letting control centers of any kind know where everyone is located, so that more vehicles can be safely packed onto a given route-whether land or sea-instead of maintaining arbitrarily large separations. This and other recent technological developments in the field of transportation are discussed in this paper.
