Abstract
In the past few years, the Direct Current Microgrid (DCMG) has become popular and preferable due to the advancement in converters and DC loads. However, the protection challenges and standardization issues of the microgrid have created obstacles to the widespread adoption of DCMG. This article is a summary of recent research conducted in the field of microgrid protection. Along this line, the voltage levels, topologies, and methods of grounding are reviewed first. Afterwards, the challenges in DC microgrid are discussed in brief. This study also analyzes and briefly outlines the latest developments for fault detection, location, and isolation in DC microgrid protection. Additionally, the protective devices for DC microgrid are also discussed. It is hoped that the proposed work will help researchers to find relevant references in the field of DC microgrid protection.
