Abstract
This paper gives an overview of the influence of mechanical ageing on the electrical insulation system of rotating machines. Using a simple finite element method (FEM) model, the complex interactions between thermal and mechanical stresses on the insulation system are analyzed. A high temperature leads to a decrease in the Young’s modulus and so influences mechanical ageing behavior, which may affect the lifetime as a positive consequence.
