Abstract
The performance of a minimum Bit Error Strategy (MiBS) combiner operating at intermediate frequency (IF) is described. A considerable reduction in system outage compared with the traditional strategies for digital radio transmission using space diversity has been achieved by a new Mibs combiner. A first trial application on a 228 Km oversea link in Italy has shown good results for a 34 MB/S system at 7 GHZ. A simple model is given to describe the combiner performance.
