Abstract
Wavelets can be used effectively in spatial scalable video coding while maintaining the classical predictive loop for temporal correlation exploitation. At low bit rates, however, the choice of the best parameters for motion compensation is not straightforward. This paper analyzes the dependence of the optimum parameters on the target bit rate. A fast algorithm towards optimal block based motion compensation in the case of frame error coding through wavelets is also presented
