Abstract
This paper presents the development and implementation of thyristor models in the Power Systems Blockset — now SimPower Systems — in MATLAB/Simulink. The issues in thyristor modeling are firstly discussed, followed by the implementation of thyristor models based on the lumped-charge and the Fourier-series-based approaches. The two models are validated against the experimental results and used to analyze the large area turn on and the paralleling performance of thyristors. Finally the speed, accuracy, simplicity and convergence performance of the two models are compared and summarized.
