Abstract
In this work, we propose a proof-of-concept design of a camera-based vision system for a quadruped robot by mimicking the behavior of the chameleon’s eyes, in order to provide an attention and monitoring system for objects of interest during a robot task. The system comprises two depth cameras placed in an spiral housing. This mechanism enables to move an independent camera around 200 degrees by mimicking the motion of the chameleon’s eyes. We implement the mechatronics engineering process for designing the dual-camera vision system through the identification of the functionality and the components required. Later on, we validate our system through simulations.
