Abstract
The paper illustrates the experience of application of the modern universal automation system for solving different problems constantly occurring in various areas of power industry. One of such universal automation systems has been applied in Russia both for investigation of Wide Area Measurement System features with reference to a lengthy interconnected power system and for analysis of irregular deviations of frequency in the power supply autonomous system with greatly variable load. In both cases, the identical SEL-421 devices produced in the USA have been applied as Phasor Measurement Units and as Digital Fault Recorders correspondingly. The comparison results of synchronized measurements in very lengthy interconnected power system and the simulation results of phase angles in the same power system are shown. The investigation outcomes of two utilization possibilities are illustrated: thyristor-controlled braking resistors, and PID regulation for decrease of frequency deviation in a power supply autonomous system with greatly variable load
