Abstract
The considerable experimental and theoretical research done on arcing faults in cylindrical overhead transformers is expanded to include pad mounted transformers. (See concurrent paper, "Progress in improving the Fault Current Capability of Overhead Transformer Enclosures.") An eventful failure of a pad mounted transformer is defined and compared to such a failure in an overhead unit. The types of fault-withstand tests that were performed on pad mounted transformers are described, and the results are given. Some simple mathematical modeling is done.
