Abstract
In this paper a new output combiner for implementation in a three-way Doherty Power Amplifier (DPA) is presented. The design of this combiner allows the load modulation principle in three-way DPA structures to be realized with simpler elements, where the design of standard Impedance Inverter Network (IIN) due to extremely small value is very challenging and not practical. The proposed combiner is calculated for a three-way DPA with 2 mm GaN-HEMTs from Nitronex and simulated in ADS. The simulation result shows a very good load modulation for the amplifier, which confirms the theoretical expectation for a three-way DPA. Finally, the amplifier with the proposed combiner is fabricated and measured under large signal condition with very promising results.
