Abstract
The dependence of the dielectric breakdown strength on the mechanical loading history has been studied for two different silica-filled PDMS formulations. The Mullins effect is found to reduce the dielectric breakdown strength. A model considering this strain-induced softening allows to predict the critical electro-mechanical instabilities based on the value of historical strain energy density.
