Abstract
In this paper, preliminary design optimization of 15 MW permanent magnet synchronous generators(PMSG) for medium-speed wind turbine is proposed. It aims to evaluate the performances of three different PMSGs, including spoke type, inserted and surface mounted PMSG. The magneto-thermal sizing model is composed of an analytical model of the magnetic field driven from Maxwell equationsand a meshed lumped thermal model. The optimization problem is solved using NSGA II genetic algorithm allowing the determination of Pareto front for the different generator types. The obtained results help authors to analyze the performances of each type of generator considering mainly the magnet weight and the machine active weight objectives.
