Abstract
This paper focuses on the development of a fault tolerant induction motor drive which is capable of continued operation with winding and power converter short-circuits. When splitting a motor into separate lanes of power there is still coupling between lanes, which is minimized by partitioning the motor into a series of circumferentially separated arcs. Each arc can be viewed like a linear motor; however there are very large asynchronous harmonic fields produced by each arc, which prevent the system from functioning successfully. A modified rotor is introduced which overcomes this problem and allows operation with shorts for what is believed to be the first time.
