Abstract
Rapid increase in power supply demand due to increase in population and commercial applications results in high short circuit currents, which not only damage our appliances but also adversely affect system's transient stability. To elucidate this issue, fault current limiters are introduced, which offers nominal impedance during normal condition. However during fault condition, they offer higher impedance to the fault current. In this way FCL limits the fault current up to acceptable level and improves the overall efficiency of power system. In this research comparison of bridge type and resonant fault current limiter is presented in consort with THD during symmetrical and asymmetrical fault on IEEE 9 bus system. Results are validated by using MATLAB/Simulink tool.
