Abstract
Although individuals are typically interested in how the brain works, a shortage of low cost and engaging teaching tools hinders public neuroscience education. To address this a neuroscience teaching module is designed and developed, which is a suitable tool for usage in middle/high school education programs. This device can be used in simple experiments in which students use sewing pins to amplify and listen to the electrical activity of neurons in the legs of a cockroach or other invertebrate. Students may hear and observe (using a smartphone oscilloscope software) the huge variations in activity generated by brushing the mechanosensitive barbs with the cockroach leg preparation.
