Abstract
Solar energy being abundantly available is an ideal renewable source of energy. Photovoltaic (PV) panel based energy systems are playing an important role in the energy sector. However, due to their dependency on solar irradiation, the power supplied by a PV panel is always changing. While PV panel is tracking its maximum power point (MPP), the demand of power by the load may be higher. In this paper, a power management system is introduced and on this basis a mini DC-grid is realized. PV source and back-up battery DC source are the main components in this system. While the PV source is driven at maximum power point which is based on boost converter, the battery source along with buck converter provides the additional power and controls the dc bus voltage. The proposed circuit has been analyzed using state-space model and also validated through experimental results.
