Abstract
High-impact low-probability (HILP) events can significantly threaten the resiliency of electric power grids. In the meantime, the utilization of renewable energy sources (RESs) has introduced serious challenges regarding their variability in the operation and planning of power systems. This paper provides a comprehensive review of power system resiliency studies for HILP events considering the integration of high penetration of RESs into power grids. The research reviewed can be classified into three levels, transmission systems, distribution systems, and microgrids (MGs). Findings in this review indicate both negative and positive impacts of RESs on grid resiliency, and several practices for mitigating those adverse consequences are advised in the paper.
