Abstract
A novel single element Eagle shape, and two element array (Ultra Wide Band) Eagle shape slotted microstrip antennas are presented. The antennas were designed and fabricated on a substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4, thickness of 1.6 mm, and tan δ = 0.02. A novel Eagle shape uni-planar compact electromagnetic band gap (UCEBG) cells are applied to reduce the mutual coupling between array elements with the same shape. The results show that a reduction in mutual coupling of 6 dB is achieved at first band (1.71 – 2.98) GHz, 10 dB at second band (4.26 – 5.62) GHz, and 6 dB at third band (6.57 – 9.16) GHz. The microstrip array was studied by CST simulator and fabricated by proto laser machine with precision 25µm. The radiation patterns are measured in an anechoic chamber with Nearfield Systems Inc. (NSI) 700S-30 spherical near-field system. The antenna can be used in the military or wireless applications.
