Abstract
Diabetic Retinopathy is a common cause of blindness in people diagnosed as diabetic and it is developed as a subsequent condition by diabetes mellitus. Retinal fundus image analysis is commonly used for the computer aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy and its grading. Different automated systems based on deep learning techniques are available for the detection and grading of diabetic retinopathy using fundus image analysis. This article summarizes and analyses the performance of different deep learning based diabetic retinopathy detection and grading methods. Different types of image processing techniques used by the deep learning based algorithms and performance indicators used in the classification process are also discussed. This article also listed the publicly available datasets for Diabetic retinopathy detection and discussed the challenges that further need to be addressed in this area.
