Abstract
In the present work, a new renewable energy system consisting of a solar chimney, photovoltaic panels, and an earth-air heat exchanger (SC-PV-EAHE) has been proposed. Analytical and numerical studies have been conducted to achieve natural ventilation, provide thermal comfort conditions inside the building, and produce electricity. The performance of the present system has been investigated in hot and temperate climates, and calculations have been done using the weather conditions of Baghdad and Tehran during the daytime in summer. The results of the study showed that the proposed system could achieve the thermal comfort of the building with a cooling demand of 116 W–1500 W. The PV modules in the photovoltaic solar chimney consist of 16 panels, which led to good electricity generation, and its value at 12:00 for Tehran and Baghdad was 1042 W and 768 W, respectively. Therefore, the generated electricity may be used to improve the thermal comfort conditions and meet most of the electrical needs of the residential space.
